What made you decide to come to the Athletic Room?
I came to the Athletic Room to try and help alleviate the issues from a full hip replacement that I had 7 months prior to my first visit. My daughter works at the Athletic Room and she had seen first hand some of the success stories they have had with many of their members and suggested I try it. I was curious to see if the AR could help me better manage my inflammation, osteoarthritis, and the weakness due to the lack of mobility that I had in hip.
What services did you receive while at the Athletic Room?
I have done all three of the services at the Athletic Room including Cryotherapy, Compression, and Stretching. I fell in love with the way it felt to be stretched by one of the Stretch/Mobility experts and decided to incorporate that into my routine.
What were you hoping to get out of your visits to the Athletic Room?
I realized that I needed to do everything in my power to maintain my mobility as I aged and one of the keys, fairly obvious to me, I needed to become more flexible. I knew stretching would help alleviate the pain from years of teaching and improve the mobility in my new hip.
How did you feel before your first appointment, and then how did you feel after?
Before my first appointment I would have pain with each step in the hip that was replaced and felt physically beat from getting up and down at my job. After the therapist worked through the stretch routine I left feeling rejuvenated and without pain.
A stretching session is interesting (having never done anything like this before) because the experience is similar to a massage but my issues after the stretch did not return as quickly as after a massage.
What lasting effects (if any) have you noticed?
With each session I noticed a difference and the mobility I had gained from the previous sessions was still there. I teach preschool and I am up and down from the floor and chairs that are 12 inches off the ground all day long. I was planning a trip that was heavy hiking on large rocks and needed the flexibility. After the 8 sessions I realized I was able to sit on the floor comfortably in the typical “criss cross applesauce” style which I had not done in many years WITHOUT PAIN!
Would you recommend the Athletic Room to a friend with similar issues?
Absolutely! And, I have recommended the AR to friends. What I realize, and something they stress at the Athletic Room, this is not just for Elite Athletes this is for everyday people to take better care of their bodies. One thing you will hear many times when you speak with a member of the Athletic Room Team is that they truly believe “Everyone is an Athlete, because we are all designed for movement.”
The process of gaining better flexibility and range of motion has had an impact in ways that I wouldn’t have thought of walking in the door for the first time. I have cleaned up my diet and now eat healthy about 80 percent of the time and my attitude is positive. You never realize how chronic pain really affects your mind.
What is your routine now at the Athletic Room?
I have 1-30 minute stretching session a week and this keeps me going and maintains the progress I have made. I spent years in the past having acupuncture, massages, and reflexology without results like this. I feel like a new woman who can accomplish anything.
What advice would you give to a new client at the Athletic Room?
My advice to a new client would be spend the money on yourself. It is the best money you will ever spend. It affects all aspects of your life. Your relationships with everyone. When I feel good I am fun for everyone to be around and we all feel good.
